Removed from big-league camp
1BLos Angeles Angels  AAA
March 11, 2026
The Angels reassigned Kavadas to minor-league camp Wednesday.
Analysis
Kavadas logged 129 plate appearances with the Angels over the past two seasons, but after losing his spot on the 40-man roster back in September, he never appeared likely to break camp as a member of the Opening Day squad. The 27-year-old first baseman/designated hitter should settle into an everyday role at Triple-A Salt Lake to begin the season.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2023
Kavadas has consistently flashed big pop in the minors, and last season he even managed to bat .281 with a .424 OBP to supplement his 17 homers over 335 plate appearances with Boston's Triple-A affiliate. While the power is legitimate, the average was likely a mirage, as it came with a .413 BABIP and 33.4% strikeout rate. The Angels traded for Kavadas in late July and promoted him to the big-league club after just 11 games in their minor-league system. Though he got plenty of opportunities after his callup, Kavadas was generally overwhelmed by big-league pitching, posting a 38.7% K rate while batting a meager .183. Nonetheless, his 91.7 mph average exit velocity and 11.5% barrel rate confirmed his power potential, and Kavadas displayed another of his strengths with a 10.6% walk rate. His skill set is very reminiscent of Adam Dunn, another big, slow, poor-fielding lefty masher who belted 462 career homers while racking up the third-most punchouts and 44th-most walks in MLB history. That would obviously be a nice career arc for Kavadas, but it's also a shoot-for-the-moon scenario, and there's ample reason to wonder how much an MLB club will be willing to stomach Kavadas' defensive liabilities and too-frequent strikeouts.
Kavadas has as much raw power as anyone in the minors, but he is either going to play poor defense at first base or be the designated hitter, so there is massive pressure on his bat. The 24-year-old lefty masher completely dominated Single-A (186 wRC+) and High-A (186 wRC+) before stumbling to a 103 wRC+ and 40.0 K% in 100 plate appearances at Double-A. He doesn't get any excuses for being around league average at any level of the minors, given his age and defense, so this is close to a make-or-break season for Kavadas. If it all comes together, he could be a high-OBP, 35-homer designated hitter, but it's more likely he strikes out too much to get consistent playing time.

1BLos Angeles Angels  AAA
August 16, 2024
The Angels are expected to call up Kavadas from Triple-A Salt Lake prior to Friday's game against Atlanta, Chuck Freeby of Sports Michiana reports.
Analysis
Kavadas was acquired from the Red Sox in the Luis Garcia trade last month. The 25-year-old is known for his power and his strikeouts, having popped 19 home runs with a 33.9 percent strikeout rate this season at the Triple-A level. Kavadas will likely take over as the Angels' designated hitter versus righties after Willie Calhoun was designated for assignment.
