Rest-of-Season Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Castellanos remained a useful fantasy piece in 2023 and 2024 even as his WAR dipped close to zero thanks largely to his high number of plate appearances, with his average of 665 across those two seasons ranking 19th in the league. He finally lost his everyday role midway through 2025, however, with his performance on the offensive side of the ball no longer strong enough to offset the fact that he was the worst defensive outfielder in the game according to Outs Above Average. Castellanos's .250/.294/.400 slash line was merely good for a 90 wRC+, and while he did still manage 72 runs and 72 RBI, he's unlikely to keep compiling those sort of numbers moving forward. He still makes a roughly league-average amount of contact (22.6 K%), but he doesn't walk much (5.4 BB%), and his hard-hit rate has fallen from 43.2% to 37.7% to 34.5% in consecutive seasons. The Phillies are expected to trade or release him this winter, and other teams won't be lining up to give him everyday at-bats. Read Past Outlooks
Not starting versus lefty
Castellanos is absent from the lineup in Thursday's opener versus the Tigers.
Analysis
Left-hander Tarik Skubal is on the bump for the Tigers, but the right-handed-hitting Castellanos will yield to lefty Gavin Sheets at first base and righty Miguel Andujar at designated hitter. It's an indication that the former Phillies castoff's playing time will be sporadic in San Diego.

Castellanos was one of just four players to appear in all 162 games last season, allowing him to reach 23 homers, six steals, 80 runs and 86 RBI on a respectable but unexciting .254/.311/.431 slash line. With no obvious threats to his playing time, $40 million remaining on his contract over the next two seasons and a fairly durable health track record, he could be one of the better compilers in fantasy baseball again in 2025, riding everyday at-bats in a strong lineup with a hitter-friendly home park to big counting-stat totals. But we can't ignore the fact that his real-world profile already looks ill-suited to an everyday job on a contender, with his lack of walks (6.2%) keeping him to a modest 105 wRC+ and a lack of value with his legs or glove limiting him to 0.4 fWAR. A step back at the plate in his age-33 season could threaten his everyday role even without an obvious alternative on the roster, leaving him unable to post the totals fantasy managers are used to.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Still being discussed in trades
Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said Monday that he has continued trade dialogue with other teams about Castellanos, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis
Nothing appears imminent on the Castellanos trade front, but Dombrowski hasn't given up hope of finding a landing spot for the outfielder. If a deal doesn't come together, it's expected that the Phillies will release Castellanos, who is owed $20 million in 2026 in the final year of his five-year, $100 million contract. Castellanos slashed only .250/.294/.400 with 17 home runs over 147 regular-season games for Philadelphia in 2025 and will turn 34 in March.
