2026 Fantasy Outlook
Acosta has some rather interesting under the hood numbers that do not quite show up in his limited big league sample size or even his overall minor league numbers. Acosta is who the Marlins received in return for dealing Jake Burger and the younger player provides more upside and flexibility for yet another rebuild era in Miami. The Marlins do not have a projected regular over the age of 30 and there is a path for Acosta to hit his way onto this roster in at least a utility capacity. Another possible path is at third base where Connor Norby has not exactly naied things down with his lack of production and growing strikeout rates. Deeper NL only leagues should keep an eye on Acosta while DC50's and Draft Champions leagues should keep this name handy for the later rounds because Miami is nothing if not the land of opportunity for players with upside. April 20, 2026
The Marlins activated Acosta (oblique) from the 10-day injured list Monday and optioned him to Triple-A Jacksonville.
Analysis
A left oblique strain delayed Acosta's start to the season. He's now recovered and has played three rehab games, but the Marlins have elected to keep him at Jacksonville where he can play every day.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2021
2020
Unfortunately we're still awaiting Acosta's official pro debut. He impressed enough after signing for $1.65 million out of Venezuela in 2019 that he may have opened 2020 in the AZL were it not for the pandemic. Gleyber Torres comps have fueled his ascent up prospect rankings, and that player archetype is the general idea. He could develop into a bat-first middle infielder who hits for average and power. Like Torres, there's a chance his thicker lower half results in him being just a four-category contributor in fantasy, but there are some who expect him to chip in a handful of steals early in his MLB career. Acosta will open 2020 as one of the youngest players in the AZL, and if his bat is as advertised, his dynasty-league value will continue to climb.
With 16-year-old international prospects who sign every year on July 2, there is an initial wave of hype when they sign, and then there is the second wave of hype after they play in front of evaluators in the informal Tricky League in the Dominican Republic, where official stats aren't tracked. Acosta received $1.65 million when he signed, but it wasn't until later that he emerged as one of the top prospects from his class. A 6-foot-1, 170-pound shortstop out of Venezuela, Acosta grew roughly four inches since he committed to signing with Texas. The added physicality translated at the dish, where he showed the potential for a plus hit tool and above-average power. He garners comparisons to Gleyber Torres and is currently a 60-grade runner with an excellent approach and plus bat speed. Given how well he showed after signing, he could bypass the Dominican Summer League and go straight to the AZL.
