2026 Fantasy Outlook
Lugo was acquired by the Angels from the Red Sox at the 2024 trade deadline and made his major league debut last season. Lugo took advantage of the relocation from an overcrowded prospect chart in Boston to the exact opposite situation in Anaheim to reach the big leagues after production and injuries to the active roster opened up opportunities for him. Lugo did something that is hard to do in that he failed to earn even a single walk in 70 major league plate appearances. That stat alone should provide you all the knowledge you need about how to proceed with him, but perhaps his 29.4% strikeout rate in Triple-A Salt Lake City would also scare you. Lugo is only draft-and-hold and mono-league material in the late rounds until one of his skills clicks in , but earning his first major league walk needs to happen sooner rather than later. Headed to Triple-A
OFLos Angeles Angels  AAA
March 1, 2026
Lugo was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday.
Analysis
Lugo will head to the Triple-A level after batting .091 with a double, an RBI, and four strikeouts over 11 at-bats in five contests during spring training. The outfielder produced a .232 average with four home runs, nine RBI and nine runs scored over 69 at-bats in 31 contests with the Angels last season. He'll look to impress with Salt Lake in an attempt to get another crack with the major-league roster in 2026.

2025 Fantasy Outlook
Lugo probably won't win a job in spring training, but he could be an option early in the season if the team needs outfield reinforcements due to injuries or poor performance. A former Red Sox prospect, Lugo was sent to the Angels at the 2024 trade deadline as part of the package that netted Boston reliever Luis Garcia. A bat-first left-field prospect, Lugo slashed .287/.376/.578 with 17 home runs, 16 steals and a 23.3 percent strikeout rate in 79 games, primarily split between Boston's Double-A and Triple-A affiliates. He suffered a season-ending thumb injury in his first game at Triple-A after the trade and was added to the 40-man roster during the offseason. He is an average runner with average raw power, so Lugo doesn't have a very high ceiling, but he's big-league ready and could hit enough to be an everyday left fielder. Lugo, who turns 24 in May and bats right-handed, is a former infielder and it's possible the Angels will try him out as a super-utility player if he is still passable at third base or second base.

Opening to make roster?
OFLos Angeles Angels  AAA
March 25, 2025
Per Sam Blum of The Athletic, Lugo may have a chance to make the Angels' Opening Day roster after the club released Mickey Moniak on Tuesday.
Analysis
Lugo is one of the organization's top prospects and didn't seem to have a realistic chance of breaking camp with the big-league club, but the departure of a veteran leaves the team without a clear fourth outfielder. The Angels haven't been shy about promoting their top prospects in recent years, but the 23-year-old wouldn't necessarily have a clear path to immediate playing time with Taylor Ward, Jo Adell and Mike Trout positioned for starting jobs.
