2026 Fantasy Outlook
Strahm overcame a left shoulder impingement and a fingernail issue last spring and went on to fill his typical high-leverage role for Philadelphia. The southpaw racked up career-best marks with 22 holds and six saves, the latter coming during a brief stint as part of a closer committee. This, of course, was prior to the Phillies' acquisition of Jhoan Duran, upon which Strahm settled back into a setup role. The 34-year-old closed out 2025 with a respectable 1.07 WHIP and 70:20 K:BB across 62.1 regular-season innings. Since Strahm reached an innings-pitched threshold in his contract, his $7.5 million option for 2026 vested after he recently passed a physical. The veteran was subsequently traded to Kansas City, where he began his career. The left-hander should continue to fill a high-leverage relief role for the Royals in 2026. Read Past Outlooks
On track to return Sunday
Strahm (knee) threw live batting practice Wednesday and is slated to throw a bullpen session Friday, putting him on track to be activated from the injured list when eligible Sunday, MLB.com reports.
Analysis
Strahm landed on the injured list May 16 but appears to be recovering well after receiving an injection May 21 to address inflammation in his right knee. Manager Matt Quatraro said the southpaw looked great during a live batting practice session Wednesday, so barring any setbacks during his upcoming bullpen session, Strahm appears likely to be activated from the injured list when first eligible Sunday. Prior to being shelved, he posted a 3.86 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 17:7 K:BB across 16.1 innings.

After making 26 multi-inning appearances in 2023, Strahm pitched in a more conventional high-leverage role for the Phillies last season. Only seven of the southpaw's career-high 66 appearances were multi-inning affairs, but pitching in shorter stints certainly benefitted the 33-year-old. Strahm ripped off a 21-game scoreless streak early in the season en route to his first All-Star team before closing out the campaign with some of the top marks among relief pitchers, including a 1.87 ERA (18th), 2.37 SIERA (12th), 0.75 WHIP (T-6th) and 28.7 K-BB percentage (11th). As the top lefty arm out of Philadelphia's bullpen, Strahm may be afforded more save chances in 2025 than he has received in the past, especially if Jordan Romano (elbow) does not return to health.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
'Friction' prompts trade to KC
According to Matt Gelb of The Athletic, the Phillies traded Strahm to the Royals last week due to "growing friction" between him and the team.
Analysis
The left-hander apparently had problems with coaches and club officials on a number of issues, so the Phillies elected to send him to Kansas City in exchange for Jonathan Bowlan. Strahm was a reliable bullpen piece during his three years in Philadelphia and finished the 2025 regular season with a 2.74 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 70:20 K:BB over 62.1 innings. He recorded six saves and 22 holds and should step into a setup role for his new team.
