Rest-of-Season Projections
Dropped from big-league camp
The Diamondbacks reassigned Baker to minor-league camp Sunday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
Analysis
Baker posted a .960 OPS over 39 plate appearances in the Cactus League, but his lack of defensive versatility and status as a non-roster player were enough to keep him from breaking camp as a short-side platoon option at first base and designated hitter. He'll likely be in line for an everyday role at Triple-A Reno.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2024
Baker spent most of the season at Triple-A Memphis again for the third year in a row, and while his numbers weren't as robust there in 2024 as they were in 2023, he did pop 32 home runs and had a 14.8 percent walk rate. The 6-foot-4, 285-pounder finally was summoned to the big club in late August but didn't play consistently. Baker has not produced much during his limited chances in the majors, but a 54.7 percent hard-hit rate and 13.5 percent walk rate offer hope. Paul Goldschmidt has moved on, but the Cardinals threw an additional playing time wrench Baker's way when they announced Willson Contreras would be a full-time first baseman/designated hitter. There's still room for Baker to get reps against lefties, but it's unlikely he'll be exposed beyond that.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Drawing interest from overseas
Baker is receiving interest from at least one team overseas, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis
Baker will turn 28 in March and wouldn't appear to be in line to play much in St. Louis with Willson Contreras and Alec Burleson set to absorb most the at-bats between first base and designated hitter. He does have an option year left, but Baker being allowed to pursue an opportunity overseas could make sense both for him and the Cardinals.
