2026 Fantasy Outlook
Pena is far from a finished product, but he has flashed significant potential and reached High-A in 2025 as an 18-year-old. Pena was one of three players from the 2024 J-15 international signing class to be assigned directly to a full-season affiliate at the start of 2025, along with Jesus Made and Leo De Vries. Pena isn't quite on the level of Made and De Vries, but he has a chance to be a positive contributor in all five traditional fantasy categories. He is a plus runner and good athlete despite lacking notable physical projection (currently 5-foot-11, 185 pounds), and he stole 44 bases on 51 attempts in 96 games last year. His 113 mph maxEV was an elite mark for any player in the minors, and especially for an 18-year-old middle infielder. High-A pitching exposed some swing-and-miss from Pena, as his strikeout rate jumped from 13.3 percent to 24.8 percent, but given his age, that's not a long-term concern. Pena will probably end up at second base or in the outfield due to his average arm and the presence of Jesus Made and Cooper Pratt in the same organization, but Pena could potentially stick at shortstop long term if given the chance. He'll head back to High-A to start his age-19 season, and if he shows command of the zone early, he could spend a few months at Double-A. Read Past Outlooks

Meets with neurologist

Illness
May 5, 2026
Pena met with a neurologist Monday after not having played since collapsing in the dugout April 22 during his last game for High-A Wisconsin, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Analysis
Pena was transported to a hospital after the incident and showed improvement after receiving IV fluids. All of Pena's subsequent tests have returned normal, but the Brewers will take feedback from the neurologist into account before deciding the young infielder's next steps. Even though he's been out of action for nearly two weeks, Wisconsin has yet to place Pena on its 7-day injured list.

Rising quickly as top prospect
SSMilwaukee Brewers  A+
December 31, 2025
Pena was a breakout prospect in the Brewers organization during the 2025 season, according to Jonathan Mayo, Jim Callis and Sam Dykstra of MLB.com.
Analysis
Pena's rise during the 2025 season was notable, as he went from an 18-year-old without experience playing stateside to one of the top prospects in the organization. Pena slashed .308/.375/.469 with six homers and 41 steals in 71 games at Single-A Carolina and was later promoted to High-A Wisconsin. It wouldn't be surprising if Pena reaches Double-A, or even Triple-A, at some point in 2026.
