2026 Fantasy Outlook
Following a year of growth in 2024, when Crawford led Boston's rotation with a career-high 183.2 innings, the right-hander was shelved during spring training with patellar tendon soreness. While rehabbing the knee, Crawford developed a wrist injury and was eventually shut down after a couple of start-and-stops. He eventually underwent season-ending surgery on the wrist in July. Cut to the offseason and Crawford was reinstated off the 60-day IL and will vie for a spot in the rotation. Early in the offseason, the rotation had question marks behind Garrett Crochet and Brayan Bello, but Boston added Sonny Gray, Ranger Suarez and Johan Oviedo, so Crawford will be among a group hoping to position himself for a potential sixth spot. Analysis
Crawford underwent an MRI late this week after dealing with soreness in his forearm during a rehab assignment. He's still awaiting his doctor's assessment, but it sounds as if a follow-up is scheduled for Sunday.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2024
2023
Crawford was a full-time starter in 2024 and took every turn, leading Boston in innings (183.2), starts (33), strikeouts (175) and WHIP (1.12). His 4.36 ERA (4.35 xFIP) represented a regression as did his strikeout percentage (23.1 percent) and hard-hit rate (36.3). That may have been due to a career-high workload for the 28-year-old right-hander, whose previous high was 129.1 innings. He admitted the workload was a challenge to stay effective and be consistent over the long haul. To that end, his 2024 workload sets him up to be stronger in 2025. Another area where Crawford needs to improve is the long ball; he led MLB with 34 home runs allowed, which can happen when a pitcher lives in the zone. Locating better in 2025 will be his focus. It's unclear where Crawford slots in the rotation; the Red Sox have a bevy of starters and the addition of Garrett Crochet and Walker Buehler could push Crawford to the back end or the bullpen.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Not expected to return this season
Crawford will undergo surgery on his right wrist and is "most likely" done for the rest of the 2025 season, according to Tim Healey of The Boston Globe.
Analysis
Crawford is already on the 60-day injured list and is expected to stay there for the remainder of the season. Even though the 2025 campaign will end up being a lost year for Crawford, he has been a solid rotation arm for the Red Sox in recent years. He tossed 390.1 innings with a 4.47 ERA between 2022 and 2024, and he should have the chance to earn a rotation spot in spring training next year.
