2026 Fantasy Outlook
Akin's ascension within the Orioles' leverage ladder continued in 2025. By mid-May, the 30-year-old already established a new career-high in the holds category, serving as one of Baltimore's top lefties out of the bullpen. In the midst of one of the best seasons of his career, Akin was made available on the trade market, but shoulder inflammation sidelined him for much of July. He was ultimately left standing as the most experienced reliever on the Orioles' roster after the club traded a handful of his bullpen-mates at the 2025 deadline. Since Felix Bautista's (shoulder) season ended prematurely, Akin stepped into primary closing duties for the first time in his career. He secured a career-high eight of Baltimore's 14 saves after Bautista got hurt, though his strikeout and walk rates suffered after his IL stint. Truthfully, Akin's profile doesn't align with that of a typical closer in MLB. He figures to step back into a setup role in 2026 after Baltimore signed Ryan Helsley. Read Past Outlooks

The Orioles reinstated Akin (groin) from the injured list Saturday.
Analysis
Akin has been sidelined since the beginning of the season due to an adductor strain. He's been playing in rehab games at Triple-A Norfolk since April 15, however, and he's allowed one earned run on three hits and a walk while striking out five batters over four innings. The lefty will now return to claim a middle-relief role in Baltimore's bullpen, pushing Cameron Foster back to Triple-A.

Akin continues to excel as a multi-inning option out of the bullpen for Baltimore, turning in his finest season to date in 2024. The southpaw's 24.9 K-BB percentage ranked 18th among qualified relievers, while his 0.94 WHIP across 78.2 frames was a career-best mark by far. Akin has yet to be afforded regular high-leverage opportunities, but he did tally six holds last year and could further ascend the Orioles' hierarchy as the team's top bullpen lefty if he repeats last season's success in 2025.
