2026 Fantasy Outlook
After struggling in four relief appearances the previous season, the Giants non-tendered Teng before re-signing him to a minor league deal without a 40-man roster spot. He earned another opportunity by August 1 after posting a 3.67 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 86 strikeouts over 54 innings for Triple-A Sacramento. Teng made eight appearances for San Francisco, including seven starts, but the results did not carry over. He struck out 39 batters in 29.2 innings, yet 17 walks inflated his ratios. Control has long been an issue for Teng, and that problem resurfaced at the major league level. He works with average velocity, sitting around 93 mph with his four-seam fastball and sinker, and complements them with a curveball, slider and changeup. The slider and changeup are his best offerings, and improved control could still allow Teng to settle into a relief role. Read Past Outlooks
Works out of bullpen Saturday
Teng collected his third hold of the season Saturday, striking out two and allowing no hits and one walk over 1.1 scoreless innings of relief in a 6-3 win over the Red Sox.
Analysis
Teng made a three-inning start in his previous appearance Tuesday, but despite a doubleheader Thursday that created a need for a temporary six-man rotation, the right-hander ended up moving back to the bullpen. He's been a standout for the Astros this season, logging a 2.00 ERA and holding batters to a .145 batting average over 18 relief innings.
