France underwent surgery in July of 2024 to repair a capsule tear in his right shoulder, which led to him opening the 2025 campaign on the 60-day injured list. It was a lengthy stint on the IL, with his first rehab outing taking place mid-July before he was activated in August. France appeared in seven games (four starts) for Triple-A Sugar Land and did appear in two games out of the Astros' bullpen in September. That said, long gone are the days in which he was a serviceable member of a major-league rotation as he was with Houston in 2023, when he went 11-6 (in 23 starts) while logging a 3.83 ERA, 1.36 wHIP and 101:47 K:BB across 136.1 innings. France will start the 2026 season in the minors, but if he shows improvement and doesn't suffer an injury setback, he could see some major-league action in 2026 as a spot starter or as a long-relief arm out of the bullpen. He'll likely slot back into the rotation at Sugar Land, which lost three of its starters (Spencer Arrighetti, Colton Gordon and Peter Lambert) last week when the big club was in need of further reinforcement.

France dealt with a shoulder injury last spring training, and while he managed to avoid the injured list to start the season, it seemed like he was never healthy. The 30-year-old made five ineffective starts with the big club and another poor one after being optioned to Triple-A Round Rock before eventually having surgery in July to repair a torn capsule in his shoulder. France managed a 3.83 ERA in 2023 with Houston, but a 4.66 FIP told a better picture of his performance and now he's got a major surgery to come back from, which might not happen until 2026.
