2026 Fantasy Outlook
Suarez was acquired by Atlanta from the Angels in early March and spent the majority of the 2025 season in the minors, where he logged a 3.50 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 69:12 K:BB over 61.2 innings across three levels. Although he appeared in just seven major-league games, Suarez made the most of his limited opportunities and excelled in his lone start against the Nationals on Sept. 16, when he tossed seven scoreless innings while fanning nine batters. The 28-year-old southpaw will likely open the 2026 season with Triple-A Gwinnett, but given his experience as a starter, he could be called up by the parent club to serve as a long reliever out of the bullpen who can make a spot start from time to time. Could step in as fifth starter
Atlanta is expected to turn to Suarez as its fifth starter to begin the season after manager Walt Weiss said Monday that Spencer Strider (oblique) will be placed on the injured list, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
Analysis
Non-roster invitee Martin Perez is also a candidate to fill the open spot in the rotation, but Suarez looks primed to get the first chance to replace Strider since he's already on the 40-man roster and was built up as a starter during spring training. Prospect Didier Fuentes, who also made the Opening Day roster, will remain in the bullpen for now. Before Strider suffered the oblique injury, Suarez had secured a long-relief spot in the Atlanta bullpen after logging a 3.38 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 14:8 K:BB in 16 innings over five Grapefruit League outings. Assuming he's indeed called upon to fill in for Strider when a fifth starter is first needed, Suarez would line up to make his Atlanta debut March 31 versus the Athletics at Truist Park.

Past Fantasy Outlooks

Suarez logged exactly as many innings (52.1) in Triple-A as in the majors last year, and he registered an ERA over 6.00 along with a WHIP of precisely 1.61 at both stops. Though he averaged over a strikeout per inning, the southpaw was pounded when batters made contact, as the 47.7% hard-hit rate against him ranked in the second percentile leaguewide. During his time with the big club last year, Suarez was mostly used as a reliever, though he started in his final two appearances and fared better, allowing three earned runs and posting a 10:4 K:BB over 10 innings. Perhaps that's an indication that he's best suited for work as a starter -- Suarez had stretches of success in that role earlier in his career -- but there's unlikely to be room for him in Los Angeles' rotation. Instead, he's probably slated to be a long-relief arm, which gives him very little appeal in fantasy.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Will get more chances
Angels manager Ron Washington said Saturday the organization believes Suarez is "capable of producing" and is "still planning on running him out there," reports Sam Blum of The Athletic.
Analysis
The left-hander is a strong candidate to be designated for assignment with a 10.13 ERA, 2.12 WHIP and 16:13 K:BB across 16 innings, but the Angels apparently aren't ready to move on. Suarez struggled to an 8.29 ERA over 33.2 innings last season, though he was a solid swingman in 2021 and 2022 with a 3.86 ERA in 45 outings.
