2026 Fantasy Outlook
Butto finished the 2024 season strong in a relief role and opened up in the same capacity this past season. He was eventually shipped to the Giants in the Tyler Rogers trade, finishing the year with a disappointing 58:32 K:BB over 67 frames along with a 3.90 ERA. Butto has always struggled to throw strikes, and a move to the bullpen has not alleviated those issues. A strikeout rate in the 33rd percentile was concerning, but a whiff rate in the 76th percentile suggests that Butto should bounce back in that area in 2026 to some degree. He also boosted his groundball rate in 2025 to a career-high 48.2 percent. The Giants' bullpen looks like a weak link on paper, so it's possible Butto could work his way into more high-leverage situations. That said, Butto is among those contributing to the uncertainty with the team's relief corps. Read Past Outlooks

Analysis

The right-hander appeared in only three Cactus League games but pitched for Team Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic this spring, during which he allowed one hit while striking out one in 5.2 scoreless innings over five outings. Butto began the 2025 campaign with the Mets but was traded to San Francisco in late July. Over 21 relief appearances with the Giants last season, the 28-year-old recorded a 4.50 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 17:10 K:BB in 20 innings.

Past Fantasy Outlooks

2023
Butto didn't break camp with the Mets, but he was called up in the first week. He started seven games with an impressive 3.08 ERA, but 21 walks in 38 innings sent him to Triple-A Syracuse in mid-May. Butto was recalled in early July to fortify the bullpen. He posted a 2.00 ERA as a reliever, with an impressive 29.7 percent strikeout rate, more than five ticks better than his level as a starter. However, his walk rate barely fell, from 13.5 to 12.3 percent. Allowing only six homers in 74 frames kept Butto's ERA in check, though the estimators pegged it a run-and-a-half higher than actual. With the Mets gearing up for a playoff run with veteran starters, Butto will likely stay in the bullpen. He may garner some holds, but unless he improves control, expect an ERA spike.
