2026 Fantasy Outlook
Berrios won 50 percent of his starts for a 74-win team in 2024, so naturally, the regression monster came for him and he won just nine of his 30 starts for the team that came within a centimeter of winning the World Series. Berrios has thrown more innings than any other pitcher since the start of the 2019 season, besting Zack Wheeler by one inning. The mileage is beginning to show on his arm, as the average velocity on his four-seamer has declined 1.3 mph from just two seasons ago, while his sinker is down another 1.6 mph. What Berrios lacks in velocity these days, he makes up with guile, throwing four to five pitches to both sides of the plate and still has solid whiff rates on his slurve and change-ups. The home run issue is here to stay, as 2017 was the only season in which Berrios had a HR/9 below 1.0, so expectations of a sub 3.50 ERA would be unwise. The challenge he ran into in 2025 before being shut down with right elbow inflammation was a high (for him) 8.0 percent walk rate, which, combined with his gopheritis, pushed his ERA over 4.00 for the first time in three seasons. He was left off the postseason roster with the elbow issue, so check in on that before pulling this trigger. Read Past Outlooks
Starting rehab assignment
Berrios (elbow) will report to Single-A Dunedin on Thursday to begin a rehab assignment, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis
The veteran right-hander is scheduled to throw about 50 pitches across three innings, and he may not require a lengthy rehab assignment before being cleared to come off the injured list. Berrios didn't seem to have a guaranteed rotation spot during spring training given Toronto's offseason additions, but he should get that opportunity based on the injuries the Blue Jays have dealt with early this season.

Berrios had us worried for awhile, but he ended up with a rather valuable fantasy season considering his surrounding circumstances. Berrios won 50 percent of his starts, which is outstanding considering he played for a last-place team that won 74 games all season. He began the season with a phenomenal April in which he won four of his first seven starts, never allowing more than two earned runs in any of them. He then came back to earth, allowing eight earned runs in his eighth start and then closing the first half by allowing 11 home runs over his final eight outings prior to the All-Star break. Berrios sliced more than a full run off his 4.01 first half ERA by stepping up his strikeout rate nearly five full percentage points and ceased hitting batters as 12 of the 13 batters he hit in 2024 came before the break. The 30-plus homers on the season predestined him to a higher ERA, as only Robbie Ray has pitched to an ERA below 3.50 despite allowing 30 or more homers in recent seasons. Berrios is no longer the strikeout guy he was in his earlier years, but he is fifth in innings worked since 2021, trailing only Nola, Webb, Wheeler and Burnes. We would be asking a lot of Berrios to go out and win another 50 percent of his starts for a team that is likely going to be a non-contender once again, but he hasn't missed a start in eons, and you just cannot buy that type of volume these days. If you take some pitching upside risks early in the draft, Berrios is an excellent volume play to help offset the earlier risks.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
'Not happy' with bullpen shift
Berrios, who finished the season on the injured list due to elbow inflammation, wasn't happy about being removed from the rotation late in the regular season and wasn't with the team for the World Series, reports Keegan Matheson of MLB.com.
Analysis
The 31-year-old was bumped to the bullpen in mid-September and made just one relief appearance before landing on the injured list, which was remarkably the first IL stint of his MLB career. Prior to 2025, Berrios had made exactly 32 regular-season starts in six consecutive full-length campaigns, and he closed out 2025 with a 4.17 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 138:56 K:BB over 166 frames. He no longer appears to fit cleanly in Toronto's rotation, with the re-signing of Shane Bieber and additions of Dylan Cease and Cody Ponce significantly bolstering the unit. Berrios clearly still wants to start and certainly has the track record to do so, which could prompt the Blue Jays to trade him this winter.
