Jonathan Mejia

A $2 million signee from last year's J-15 international signing class, Mejia is a bat-first infielder who plays shortstop now but will likely end up at second or third base. The 17-year-old switch-hitter logged a .267/.418/.479 slash line with five home runs, a .212 ISO, 23.1 K% and 15.9 BB% as one of the youngest hitters in the Dominican Summer League. His 33% groundball rate and 107 mph max exit velocity, per Baseball America, are excellent marks for a young slugger. Mejia checks a lot of boxes we look for in breakout prospects from Latin America, but he is not a quick-twitch athlete and is unlikely to provide notable speed, so the bat will need to continue to stand out.
