2026 Fantasy Outlook
India was traded from Cincinnati to Kansas City last winter, and he delivered a career-worst .233/.323/.346 slash line during his first season with the Royals. He increased his flyball rate more than eight points to 44.6 percent and saw his line-drive rate drop nearly five points thanks to a career-high launch angle of 17.1 degrees, which could explain the worse results since his hard-hit rate and average exit velocity remaining largely unchanged at 36.8 percent and 87.9 mph. India was never a huge threat in terms of power or speed, but he still had double-digit marks in both categories in three of his first four seasons. He failed to achieve that in either statistic in 2025. The .835 OPS that won India NL Rookie of the Year in 2021 is way back in the rearview mirror, but the .247/.343/.393 slash line he posted across the ensuing three seasons would be a reasonable expectation for a bounce-back campaign. India should certainly be capable of that in his age-29 season during 2026 and will have every motivation in a contract year, but fantasy managers shouldn't invest too heavily for a potential resurgence given the limited ceiling he showed prior to the down season. India's time with the Reds has come to an end following a November trade to the Royals. The National League Rookie of the Year in 2021, India hit .247/.343/.393 over the subsequent three seasons. He reached a career-high 151 games last season after battling injuries over the prior two years, including plantar fasciitis. India was openly critical of how the team assessed the injury to his plantar fascia in 2023 and called out the losing culture last season, which set the table for his departure from the organization. While the change of scenery was needed, the move to Kansas City comes with a huge park downgrade. He packs a decent power-speed combo, but he's also a HBP magnet, adding to his injury risk. This will be a prove-it year for the second baseman as he looks to re-establish himself in a new league.

Could be non-tendered
The Royals are considering non-tendering India, Ken Rosenthal, Katie Woo and Will Sammon of The Athletic report.
Analysis
India made $5 million in 2025 and is due a raise in his final year of arbitration. However, after slashing an anemic .233/.323/.346 with nine home runs and zero stolen bases in his first season in Kansas City, the Royals might decide to cut him loose instead. India made starts at second base, third base and left field in 2025 and had a negative Outs Above Average rating at all three positions.
