Rest-of-Season Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Cannon showed some promise during his first major-league season in 2024, especially toward the tail end of the year in which he posted a 3.77 ERA and 1.05 WHIP over 28.2 innings in his last five starts (3-1 record). He had some nice moments in 2025 until being shut down in June due to a back injury, and he wasn't quite the same upon his return later in the month. He shifted to a bulk-relief role after the All-Star break and gave up five earned runs in five of his last six appearances of the season. He ended the 2025 season with a 5.82 ERA and 1.49 WHIP across 103.2 innings, and he ranked in the bottom 10 percent of qualified pitchers in xERA (5.37) and xBA (.271). Cannon will be battling for a spot on the White Sox's 26-man roster, and it's unclear whether he'll be part of the rotation or bullpen, which will somewhat depend on what the South Siders decide to do with Sean Newcomb. Goes to IL with hip inflammation
The White Sox placed Cannon of the 15-day injured list Tuesday with right hip inflammation.
Analysis
Cannon had to be pulled from Sunday's start against the Royals due to the injury in what was his first outing of the season in the majors. The injury should heal with rest, but it's unclear when Cannon might be game-ready again, and it's not a given that he'll rejoin the big-league rotation when he's physically ready.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2024
Cannon's rookie season qualified as one of the few success stories for the woeful White Sox in 2024. Highlights for the right-hander included falling one out shy of a shutout against the Astros in a June start and going at least six innings in 11 of his final 18 outings. A 17.7 percent strikeout was underwhelming but expected for a guy who had just a 20.4 percent strikeout rate in the minors. He also had just a 38.1 percent ground ball rate with the White Sox after specializing in that area in the minors. Cannon has displayed good control dating back to his college days at Georgia and that continued with the White Sox as he sported a 7.7 percent walk rate over 124.1 frames. While the 24-year-old has the look of someone who could be a back-end rotation starter for a while, the lack of bat-missing ability and horrible team context makes Cannon pretty unappealing in fantasy.
