2026 Fantasy Outlook
Estrada established career-best marks across multiple categories in 2025, including games played (77 - 4th among relievers), innings pitched (73.0) and holds (30 - T-5th). The 27-year-old also led qualified relievers with 108 strikeouts, ranked fifth with a 35.5 percent strikeout rate and 10th with a 26.6 K-BB percentage. Walks were still an issue, but his 8.9 percent rate was also a career-best. Estrada did have trouble with the long ball, serving up 12 homers last season after not permitting more than four during any previous campaign. On the plus side, his splitter was filthy, ranking third in the league for that pitch type in both BAA (.127) and whiff percentage (47.5). It's a pitch he threw more often last season (23 percent pitch usage) after adding it to his arsenal in 2024. The right-hander holds fantasy appeal for 2026 based on strikeout upside alone, but there might even be a pathway to saves now that Robert Suarez is a free-agent. Read Past Outlooks
Picks up save Saturday
Estrada earned a save against the Mariners on Saturday, allowing one hit and one walk over one scoreless inning.
Analysis
Estrada entered in the ninth inning with San Diego up by three runs. He got into some trouble by issuing a walk and allowing a single with one out, but the right-hander retired the next two batters to close out the San Diego win. Estrada's save was his first of the season and fifth of his career. Mason Miller has been arguably the best closer in baseball this season, but he was presumably unavailable after throwing 34 pitches in a save Friday. With that in mind, Estrada isn't likely to see many save chances moving forward.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025

2023
Estrada's 2024 campaign will best be remembered for his remarkable run over a three-outing stretch in May during which he struck out an MLB expansion-era record 13 consecutive batters. That accomplishment is even more impressive considering the righty reliever was a waiver-wire acquistion by San Diego the previous November. Though he wasn't quite that dominant over the entire campaign, Estrada's overall performance was certainly a breakout, as he posted a 2.95 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and dominant 37.3% strikeout rate over 61 innings while collecting six wins, 16 holds and a save. The 26-year-old's Statcast metrics scream closer material -- last season, he ranked above the 90th percentile in fastball velocity, chase rate, whiff rate and strikeout percentage -- though Robert Suarez will likely retain that role for San Diego to begin 2025 given his strong showing last year. Estrada should serve as a late-inning, high-leverage option, however, and his ability to rack up punchouts provides some appeal in most fantasy leagues, with considerably more value in those that count holds.
