2026 Fantasy Outlook
Taillon has found some success for the Cubs the last two seasons, though injuries have ultimately capped his performance. In 2025, the veteran righty posted 3.68 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 98 strikeouts in 23 starts across 129.2 innings while also making two trips to the injured list. Taillon's K/9 has fallen to 6.80 each of the last two years, which has coincided with his average fastball dropping down below 93 mph after sitting around 95 mph earlier in his career. Entering his 10th season in the majors in 2026, Taillon is unlikely to see his velocity or strikeouts ramp back up. However, he has seemingly learned how to be effective with his current repertoire, and he figures to get decent run support from a strong Chicago lineup. Taillon's injury history and lack of elite stuff certainly cap his fantasy upside moving forward, but he could still string together a few wins while not being a drain on ERA or WHIP. Takes loss despite quality start
Taillon (2-5) took the loss Tuesday against the Athletics, allowing two runs on six hits and one walk while striking out six over 6.1 innings.
Analysis
Taillon turned in a respectable outing, but Chicago's offense provided little support as the right-hander dropped to 0-4 over his last six starts. He remains without a win since April 29. The biggest issue once again was the long ball, as the veteran surrendered a solo homer to Nick Kurtz in the third inning and now leads the majors with 20 home runs allowed this season. Taillon currently owns the fourth-highest qualified ERA in MLB at 5.13 and his 6.58 FIP is even more alarming, sitting 1.14 points higher than the next closest qualified pitcher. He will seek to build off Tuesday's successes in his next start, scheduled against San Francisco.

After a disappointing 2023 campaign in which he posted a career-worst 4.84 ERA, Taillon bounced back in his second season with the Cubs. The veteran righty lowered his ERA to 3.27 and also posted a 1.13 WHIP, down from 1.28 a year earlier. Taillon did this while losing a few ticks on his fastball, and he saw his K/9 drop to a career-worst 6.80 as well. It's an open question whether the 32-year-old will be able to sustain his strong results without missing more bats, and at this point in his career, it's unlikely that he dials his fastball up any more. Taillon missed a little time to begin the 2024 season with a back issue, though he was mostly healthy after he made his debut in mid-April. Heading into his age-33 season, Taillon carries some risk of showing increased wear and tear, and his diminished velocity is reason for a little concern as well. However, based on his 2024 output alone, Taillon carries fantasy appeal heading into this season despite no longer profiling as a staff ace at this point in his career.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Mets check in
According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Mets have touched base with the Cubs regarding a potential trade for Taillon.
Analysis
Talks didn't appear to progress significantly, and there's no guarantee Taillon is moved since he's under contract for two more years after this season. However, the veteran right-hander is likely Chicago's most valuable trade chip in a sellers' market, so the club could end up getting an offer too good to turn down.
