2023 Fantasy Outlook
A bat-first (and maybe bat-only) prospect, Berry hit .370/.464/.630 with 15 home runs, an 8.9 K% and a 10.9 BB% in 53 games for LSU. He primarily played third base for the Tigers, but also saw time in the outfield corners. To put it bluntly, Berry profiles best at designated hitter, and he may also get time at first base, although he already has below-average athleticism. While the switch hitter gets to more power from the left side, the draft-day investment and Miami's lack of quality depth should buy him everyday playing time early in his career as long as he keeps his head above water. He had a 118 wRC+ at Single-A, and while he only had a .128 ISO and subpar hard-hit metrics, his 38.8 GB% was encouragingly low. There are scouts who see similarities to Andrew Vaughn, and Berry probably needs to be that good to be a long-term regular at the bottom of the defensive spectrum. It might seem harsh, but Berry really needs to hit in 2023 to retain dynasty value.
