2026 Fantasy Outlook
Over the past two seasons, Gaddis has established himself as one of the game's top setup men. After finishing third in the majors with 34 holds in 2024, the 27-year-old finished second last year with 35. The 6-foot-6 righty maintained his slider-heavy approach that he adopted when he transitioned to relief role, tossing it more than half of the time. He increased both his whiff percentage and strikeout rate, with each jumping three percentage points compared to 2024. However, when opposing batters did make contact, they hit the ball hard as his average exit velocity allowed (90.9 mph) and 9.5 barrel percentage were below average marks. Gaddis' changeup was not as effective as it was during prior campaigns, but he did produce a 46.2 percent whiff rate on the pitch. Throwing more could help Gaddis reach a K-rate north of 30 percent, but he's been pretty consistent with his pitch usage over the past two years. He's once again in line for 30-plus holds and a handful of saves for 2026. Read Past Outlooks

This section compares his stats with all relief pitcher seasons from the previous three seasons (minimum 30 innings)*. The bar represents the player's percentile rank. For example, if the bar is halfway across, then the player falls into the 50th percentile for that stat and it would be considered average.

* Exit Velocity, Barrels/BBE %, Balls Hit 95+ MPH %, and Spin Rate are benchmarked against 2019 data (min 30 IP). See here for more exit velocity/barrels stats plus an explanation of current limitations with that data set.

2023
Gaddis was a pleasant surprise for the Guardians during his first full season in the majors. After making seven spot-starts for Cleveland in 2023, the 26-year-old righty transitioned to a relief role and altered his pitch mix, ditching his curveball and cutter entirely while throwing more sliders (45 percent pitch usage). Gaddis also gained velocity - adding two miles per hour on his fastball and nearly four miles per hour on his slider. This yielded much better results, as Gaddis finished 5th among qualified relievers with a 1.57 ERA and tied for 6th with a 0.76 WHIP. He also tied for third in the majors with 34 holds and will open 2025 in a setup role for the Guardians.
Gaddis appeared in 11 games for Cleveland in 2023, making seven starts and totaling 42 innings pitched. The 25-year-old had middling results with a 4.50 ERA and 1.31 WHIP while striking out only 24 batters. Gaddis has flashed upside throughout his minor league career entering last year with a 12.1 K/9, but those results have yet to transfer to the major league level. Currently, Gaddis is on the outside looking in at a rotation spot with the Guardians and could settle into a long relief role for the team. For fantasy purposes Gaddis is best viewed as a streaming starter at best.
Gaddis was able to jump up a couple of levels in 2022. He began the year with a 4.24 ERA and 1.17 WHIP over 76.1 innings at Double-A, but improved his ratios to a 3.60 ERA and 0.93 WHIP across 45 innings with Triple-A Columbus. The improvements didn't continue in his two spot starts in the majors, but there's still some obvious upside for the right-hander entering his age-25 season. He misses a ton of bats, racking up 12.1 K/9 mark in his minor-league career to date, though he also tends to give up loud contact. There's no obvious spot for Gaddis in the Guardians' rotation this spring, though his strikeout stuff could force the issue if he does well during spring training. He'll likely begin the year at Triple-A with the ability to fill in as a spot starter in the big leagues.

Should be ready for Opening Day
PCleveland Guardians
March 7, 2026
Gaddis underwent imaging on his forearm and everything "came back clean," so he should be available for Opening Day, manager Stephen Vogt told Tim Stebbins of MLB.com.
Analysis
Gaddis experienced forearm tightness after his first spring outing on Feb. 27, but he has since resumed his throwing progression. Since the imaging came back clean, the reliever should be ready to pitch once the season starts in late March. Gaddis has been an absolute workhorse in the Guardians' bullpen, as he's made 151 appearances over the last two seasons -- the second-highest mark in all of baseball in that span.
