2026 Fantasy Outlook
Jax did not record any saves in 2025, but he finished eighth among relievers with 28 holds and sixth with a career-high 99 strikeouts. His sweeper was responsible for a majority of those strikeouts (59), as Jax's 46.5 whiff percentage was best in the league for that pitch type. The right-hander's 92.3 mph changeup was equally as devastating, also inducing a 46.5 whiff percentage, though he curiously tossed fewer of those following a mid-season trade to Tampa Bay. Unfortunately, Jax wasn't successful with his high-velocity offerings, as his fastball (.320 BA, .620 SLG) and sinker (.333 BA, .524 SLG) were crushed by opposing hitters. Same for the occasional cutter that he tinkered with to left-handed batters. Now that Jax is with the Rays, he might tinker with his pitch mix even more than years past, though his sweeper and changeup should remain the focus of his arsenal. Jax has a clear path to saves in 2026, though Kevin Cash's plans for the ninth inning are currently unknown. Read Past Outlooks
Rough opening weekend continues
Jax (0-1) blew the save and took the loss Saturday as the Rays were downed by the Cardinals 6-5 in 10 innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on one hit and one walk in one-third of an inning.
Analysis
After blowing the save in Tampa Bay's opener Thursday, Jax was called upon again to protect a one-run lead in the bottom of the 10th, but he instead served up a walk-off single to rookie JJ Wetherholt after a walk and a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners. Jax came into the season expected to lead the Rays' closing committee despite the fact that he didn't record a save in 2025, but those plans could be changing quickly. Left-hander Garrett Cleavinger should be the next man up with Edwin Uceta (shoulder) on the shelf, but Bryan Baker -- who struck out two in a perfect ninth Saturday to get the game to extra innings -- might also be in the mix if manager Kevin Cash wants a righty instead.

Jax broke out as a lockdown reliever in 2024, posting career-best marks across multiple categories including a 2.03 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, 95 strikeouts, 10 saves and 24 holds. The 29-year-old significantly improved his strikeout rate (34.4 percent) by nearly 10 percentage points - his sweeper and changeup headlining his five-pitch aresenal with 45 percent or better whiff rates. Jax's 37.8 percent overall whiff rate was a 98th percentile metric. The Twins recently indicated they're open to the possibility of moving Jax to the starting rotation. The right-hander came up through the minors as a starter and made 14 starts for the Twins in 2021, posting a 6.10 ERA. Given his past starting experience, Jax would seem more equipped for a shift to the rotation than most relievers. The question is whether the uptick in stuff since his move to relief would translate back to a starting role.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Twins still fielding offers
The Twins remain in trade talks regarding Jax even after dealing Jhoan Duran, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
Analysis
Jax is currently in line to take over as the Twins' closer following the departure of Duran, but trade talks involving Jax have "increased" Thursday, per Rosenthal. It would take a haul in order to pry him from the Twins, as Jax boasts a 35.2 percent strikeout rate over the last two seasons and is under team control through 2027.
