Activated at Double-A
Triple-A Toledo reinstated Hill (lat) from its 7-day injured list May 23 and assigned him to Double-A Erie.
ANALYSIS
Hill attended big-league spring training as a non-roster invitee but never built much momentum for a spot in the Tigers' Opening Day bullpen after suffering a right lat strain in mid-February. He remained out of action until he started an extended rehab assignment with Single-A Lakeland on April 12. Over 13 outings with Lakeland spanning 17.2 innings, Hill posted a 5.60 ERA and 1.64 WHIP before he was cleared to head to Erie. He debuted for the Double-A affiliate Friday, giving up two unearned runs on two hits and two walks while striking out two over one inning out of the bullpen.

Todd Zola toes the rubber with his Weekly Pitcher Rankings for fantasy baseball, starting with Toronto's Kevin Gausman taking the mound twice at home against a pair of tough opponents.
2023 Fantasy Outlook
With the Tigers dealing with a number of pitching injuries in 2022, Hill made his MLB debut and turned in eight starts and nine relief appearances. The righty logged a decent 4.03 ERA and 1.36 WHIP with 40 strikeouts across 60.1 innings. By the end of the year, he was working in a long-relief role, and that's where Hill could end up in 2023 with Spencer Turnbull returning to the rotation after missing last year following Tommy John surgery. Detroit also has Eduardo Rodriguez, Matt Manning, Beau Brieske, Alex Faedo and Tyler Alexander in the mix to pick up starts. Beyond Rodriguez, no one in that group is too well established at the MLB level, so there is a chance for Hill to work his way into the rotation. He'll likely need to miss more bats to have a significant fantasy impact. Despite recording a 5.97 K/9 in the majors, Hill posted an 11.13 K/9 across 37.2 innings at the Triple-A level, so perhaps the strikeout upside is there. For now, he'll enter his age-27 season with a degree of uncertainty surrounding his role, and he'll be on the fringes of fantasy relevancy for now.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Starting Tuesday?
Hill is the most likely candidate to start for Detroit on Tuesday, reports Evan Woodbery of MLive.com.
ANALYSIS
Hill returned to Triple-A Toledo after making a start and serving as the 27th man for Thursday's doubleheader and may be heading back to Detroit soon. The Tigers have named a starter for Monday and Wednesday but have not yet announced who will take the mound Tuesday. The 26-year-old has made three starts for the Tigers this month, posting a 5.63 ERA and 8:5 K:BB in 16 innings. With Beau Brieske out until August with a forearm injury and Matt Manning likely needing one more rehab start as he comes back from a shoulder injury, there's a possibility that Hill could make a couple of starts for Detroit if recalled.
