2026 Fantasy Outlook
Cleavinger cut his fastball usage in half and nearly eliminated his cutter in 2025, opting to throw more sliders (39 percent usage) and sinkers (37 percent) en-route to his finest season to date. The 31-year-old established career-best marks in innings pitched (61.1), strikeouts (82), ERA (2.35) and holds (21) while remaining healthy for the second-straight year. The southpaw didn't toss many sweepers - he threw it only 90 times, primarily to left-handed hitters - but it produced a .056 batting average against and 60.9 percent whiff rate that was tops for that pitch type among those who threw a minimum of 50 sweepers. Cleavinger is expected to be part of a closer-by-committee for the Rays in 2026, and given his neutral splits, he should not be at a matchup disadvantage when it comes to who manager Kevin Cash chooses to deploy in save situations. Live BP on tap for Thursday
Cleavinger (calf) is scheduled to face hitters in live batting practice Thursday, per MLB.com.
Analysis
The left-hander is working his way back from right calf tightness, and the expectation is that he'll be able to rejoin Tampa Bay's bullpen at some point in mid-to-late April. Cleavinger has given up two runs on three hits and four walks over 2.1 innings to begin the year, so it's possible the Rays will ease him back into the high-leverage mix once he's cleared to return.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2024
Cleavinger was the top lefty out of Tampa Bay's bullpen in 2024, which occasionally led to save chances when closer Pete Fairbanks was unavailable and as matchups dictated. The 30-year-old recorded six saves (second on the Rays) along with 15 holds, demonstrating his prowess in high-leverage. The southpaw racked up career-highs in games played (68), innings (60) and strikeouts (71), all more than he recorded from 2020 through 2023 combined. He also added a cutter and sweeper to his arsenal last season while relying far less on his sinker, which unexpectedly got crushed by opposing hitters. Cleavinger figures to be part of Tampa Bay's high-leverage plans again for 2025.
