2023 Fantasy Outlook
A quick-twitch middle infielder who has been clocked as a plus runner, Brown has an unconventional setup that reminds some of Craig Counsell, who could eventually be his big-league manager. Despite the unique approach, he is great at getting the barrel on the ball. He hit .330/.460/.544 with seven home runs, 12 steals and a 28:39 K:BB in 265 plate appearances this past year at Coastal Carolina. Brown also hit .282 with a wood bat in the Cape Cod League in the summer of 2021. The Brewers gave him an under-slot $2.05 million after selecting him with the 27th overall pick - they actually gave their second-round pick (Jacob Misiorowski) a slightly larger signing bonus. Brown hit .262 with three home runs, 15 steals on 17 attempts, an 11.0 BB% and a 17.0 K% in 100 plate appearances at Single-A. His contact ability is excellent and he doesn't chase much, so Brown could be a high-AVG/high-OBP leadoff hitter if he reaches his ceiling. He probably won't ever have more than 20-homer pop, but he could steal 20-plus bases if he is playing regularly. Brown played primarily shortstop after signing, but the majority of scouts have him pegged as a future second baseman due to his average throwing arm.
