2026 Fantasy Outlook
Pagan re-emerged on the high-leverage scene in 2025, recording a career-high 32 saves for Cincinnati. That tied him for fifth in the league overall, while his 78 percent team save share was 6th-highest among closers. Pagan's 0.92 WHIP ranked 15th among qualified relievers and his 30 percent strikeout rate was his highest mark since 2022, though he still had trouble keeping the ball inside the park (1.3 HR/9) due to a 56.7 fly ball percentage was 5th-highest among relievers. Pagan re-signed with Cincinnati and figures to reprise his role as the Reds closer, though his fly ball tendencies aren't the best fit for Great American Ball Park. Not to mention, his inconsistent track record makes him a risky bet for 20-plus saves again in 2026. Read Past Outlooks
Earns first save
Pagan earned the save in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Red Sox, allowing one hit and one walk in a scoreless ninth inning. He did not record a strikeout.
Analysis
Pagan was summoned to protect a one-run lead in the ninth and worked around a one-out double to slam the door. It was an encouraging rebound after he allowed a homer and blew his first save chance Saturday. The 34-year-old could be unavailable Monday after throwing 34 high-leverage pitches over the past two days.

Pagan exercised his $8 million player option for 2025 after he missed the first half of last season due to a lat injury. Upon his return, he filled a high-leverage role out of Cincinnati's bullpen, racking up four wins, eight holds and one save across his 38 appearances. While the veteran right-hander's performance declined and his homer-prone tendencies returned (1.4 HR/9), he still managed to produce strikeout and whiff rates that were above league average. Now that Terry Francona is managing the Reds, Pagan may get the opportunity to overtake Alexis Diaz for closing duties, as he's handled the role before (33 career saves) and his career 1.09 WHIP is slightly better.

"We'll slow play them a little," pitching coach Derek Johnson said. "We need to give them a bit of time on the front end to build and maybe not be in games right away.
