2026 Fantasy Outlook
Gordon got his feet wet at the big-league level in 2025, making 14 starts and six relief appearances for the Astros. Save for a four-start stretch in May when he collected a 2.14 ERA, it was an unremarkable debut. The southpaw exhibited excellent control with a five percent walk rate, but the bat-missing ability he showed in the minors (27 percent strikeout rate) didn't translate in the majors (19 percent strikeout rate). That's not terribly surprising, as Gordon is a soft tosser who gets by more on deception than stuff. He could get another chance to start some games for the Astros in 2026, but Gordon is likely a swingman-type in the long run whose fantasy value is limited. Read Past Outlooks

Hit hard in season debut
PHouston Astros
April 14, 2026
Gordon did not factor into the decision Tuesday against the Rockies, allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out five over 3.2 innings.
Analysis
Making his first start of the season, Gordon was tested early and often. The right-hander gave up a homer to the third batter he faced -- Hunter Goodman -- in the first, then allowed three straight hits in the second inning that led to two more runs. Trouble returned in the fourth when he surrendered another long ball and loaded the bases before being lifted. While the five strikeouts were encouraging, Gordon will need consistently keep traffic off the bases in order to find success in his next scheduled start against St. Louis.

How does Colton Gordon compare to other starting pitchers?
This section compares his stats with all starting pitcher seasons from the previous three seasons (minimum 120 innings)*. The bar represents the player's percentile rank. For example, if the bar is halfway across, then the player falls into the 50th percentile for that stat and it would be considered average.

* Exit Velocity, Barrels/BBE %, Balls Hit 95+ MPH %, and Spin Rate are benchmarked against 2019 data (min 120 IP). See here for more exit velocity/barrels stats plus an explanation of current limitations with that data set.

2025 Fantasy Outlook
A 26-year-old lefty who spent all of 2024 in Houston's Triple-A rotation, Gordon has better surface stats than stuff. He logged a 3.94 ERA, and among the 45 Pacific Coast League pitchers who logged 70-plus innings, his 1.22 WHIP ranked third and his 16.3 K-BB% ranked eighth. Gordon throws a bevy of middling pitches and gets by because of his above-average strike-throwing ability. His fastball sits at 90-91 mph and has poor movement, so he may not have sustained success against big-league hitters, especially when he faces them a second time in the same start. Gordon is on the 40-man roster and will be a rotation option early in 2026 if a big-league starter gets injured, but he lacks a high ceiling and his subpar stuff means he could get lit up by any lineup if he's not locating his pitches.
