2026 Fantasy Outlook
Roden struggled in his first taste of the majors but could be in the mix to win regular playing time this spring. Roden made Toronto's major league roster out of spring training but didn't show much in the majors with a .589 OPS in 113 plate appearances. He shuffled between the majors and minors for the first half but had a second strong season at Triple-A (.919 OPS). He was then traded to the Twins at the deadline and was given a chance at a near everyday role. Unfortunately, he struggled again with a .463 OPS in 12 games before suffering a thumb injury. Roden has a strong eye at the plate (11.3% BB%) and makes good contact (89.3% Contact%) which results in strong on-base sills (.411 OPS in 428 PA at Triple-A), but lacks power (30 homers in 298 minor league games). He has a strong arm and slightly above-average speed and range, which gave him time in all three outfield spots, but primarily the corners. Twins management was high on his outlook and viewed him as a possible starter or platoon candidate when acquired. He had surgery on his left thumb in September but is expected to be fully healthy in spring training. His on-base ability could keep him the lineup and make him an asset in batting average, but his power and speed may be lacking for fantasy purposes. Read Past Outlooks
Left off Opening Day roster
The Twins optioned Roden to Triple-A St. Paul on Sunday, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.
Analysis
The 26-year-old batted .302 with a double, a homer and two steals in 15 Grapefruit League games, but he'll still open the season in the minors in favor of James Outman. It's worth noting that Outman has no remaining minor-league options, which likely factored into Roden's demotion to begin the season. He shouldn't have to wait too long to get another look for the rebuilding Twins.

2025 Fantasy Outlook
Roden came into 2024 with a stellar track record of hitting for contact and working high walk rates without ever logging an ISO over .150. He brought the same excellent contact skill (83.4 Contact%) and patience (12.1 BB%) across stops at Double-A and Triple-A while hitting 16 home runs in 125 games and slugging .473 with a 31.4 percent hard-hit rate. Roden slashed .314/.406/.510 with nine home runs, eight steals and a 14.3 percent strikeout rate in 71 games at Triple-A while seeing time in all three outfield spots, but primarily the corners. Given his track record of getting on base (career .407 OBP in the minors), Roden just needs to hit for 20-homer power to provide enough value to be in the lineup most days, even as a left fielder. He's not known for being a great athlete and his 38 steals over the past two seasons were mostly the product of good reads while being on first base a lot. He's not on the 40-man roster yet, but Roden doesn't have anything left to prove at Triple-A, so it's just a matter of awaiting his chance.

Roden went 2-for-5 in Friday's Grapefruit League loss to Boston. Despite hitting .323 (10-for-31) with a home run this spring, both Matthew Leach of MLB.com and The Athletic project Roden to not make the Opening Day roster.
