2026 Fantasy Outlook
Elevated ERAs are nothing new for Nola, who saw his jump to 4.63 in 2021 and 4.46 in 2023, but few would have predicted a 6.01 ERA for him last season. Just as in those previous seasons, that poor ERA came with much better ERA estimators (a 3.71 xFIP and 3.81 SIERA in this case), offering reason for optimism. Both his 24.0 K% and 6.9 BB% were better than league average, and if not for a .315 BABIP and 62.4% strand rate, his numbers might have looked much better. Plenty of factors point towards pessimism, however. Those underlying numbers fell short of his usual standards, as his xFIP and SIERA were each the second-worst marks of his career, while his 17.1% K-BB% was his lowest since his rookie season. He missed an extended period for the first time since 2017, with ankle and rib injuries limiting him to 17 starts. His fastball also averaged just 91.8 mph, down 0.8 mph from 2024 and 1.5 mph from its peak. It looks as though age is coming for the righty, who turns 33 in June. Read Past Outlooks
Goes five innings in no-decision
Nola didn't factor into the decision Tuesday against the Cubs, allowing three runs on eight hits and two walks with five strikeouts across five innings.
Analysis
Nola dealt with a lot of traffic on the bases and was unable to hold onto an early 3-0 lead, as he gave up five hits and a couple of runs in the third inning before walking a pair ahead of a game-tying single in the fifth. No longer the top-of-the-rotation starter he once was as he closes in on his 33rd birthday and coming off a 6.01 ERA across 17 starts last season, Nola has logged a 4.03 ERA and 23:6 K:BB across 22.1 innings to begin the 2026 campaign. He's really struggled against left-handed hitters since the start of last season. Nola is in line to face the Cubs again in his next start Monday at Wrigley Field.

Nola posted a mid-4.00 ERA in 2023 and rebounded last season with a 3.57 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 197:50 K:BB over 199.1 innings. It's the first time he's failed to eclipse 200 strikeouts in a full season since 2017, and his 8.9 K/9 is the worst mark since his rookie campaign. The right-hander also surrendered 30-plus home runs for the second straight season. Nola's run of extreme durability has been impressive, and he hasn't missed a start since 2017. Zack Wheeler remains the clear ace of Philadelphia's staff, but Nola is a strong and reliable No. 2 arm even though his 92.1-mph average fastball velocity is down a half tick from a couple years ago. He hasn't produced a sub-4.00 ERA in back-to-back seasons over the past four years, but there's no reason he can't buck that trend in 2025.
