The Red Sox are pleased with Refsnyder as a depth outfielder that hits lefties well (.828 OPS in 2023) and inked him to a deal for the 2024 season. For the first time in his career, Refsnyder will not have to enter the offseason seeking a minor-league contract with yet another organization - Boston is the sixth stop. The trade of Alex Verdugo to the Yankees, along with Adam Duvall hitting free agency, means Boston's outfield has a different look. Tyler O'Neill, acquired during the winter meetings, is expected to take over in right field with Masataka Yoshida in left and one of a group that includes Wilyer Abreu, Jarren Duran and Cedanne Rafaela in center. It's unlikely that Refsnyder, who had a career-high 242 plate appearances in 2023, will be anything more than a fourth outfielder or the short side of a platoon, and both the player and team are happy with that.
