Svanson didn't break camp with the Cardinals, but made his major league debut in 2025. The 26-year-old was first recalled in mid-April, but was shuttled between the majors and Triple-A Memphis multiple times before he was called up for good in late-July. The 6-foot-4 righty was frequently deployed in a multi-inning capacity - he recorded at least one inning in 24 of his 39 big-league appearances in 2025 - and a dominant second-half even afforded him some high-leverage opportunities. Svanson posted a 1.05 ERA (seventh among relief pitchers), 0.93 WHIP and 44:12 K:BB after the All-Star break; a span of 34.1 innings. With a 29.1% strikeout rate, Svanson appears to fit the typical closer profile more than Riley O'Brien or JoJo Romero would, but time will tell if manager Oliver Marmol looks his way in 2026. He's certainly worth speculating on as a closer-in-waiting candidate. Read Past Outlooks
