Jacob spent most of the 2024 season in Triple-A and posted a mediocre 5.53 ERA over 53.2 innings, but he impressed during his time in the majors, recording a 19:2 K:BB in 14.2 frames across seven appearances. The right-hander added a 2.45 ERA and 0.75 WHIP and was effective enough to be on San Diego's roster for the NLDS. Jacob doesn't profile as a high-leverage reliever due to his lack of his velocity -- his fastball sits in the high-80s -- but he induces plenty of whiffs (and, consequently, punchouts) thanks to a funky, deceptive delivery and a mid-to-low-70s changeup that opponents batted just 3-for-20 against last season. Jacob tossed two or more innings in five of his seven outings with San Diego in 2024, so the organization may be viewing him as primarily a middle-relief arm. Read Past Outlooks
