Romano was one of the best closers in baseball from 2021 to 2023 with a 2.37 ERA and 95 saves, but after an injury-riddled campaign due to elbow issues, he was non-tendered by Toronto. The 31-year-old allowed 10 earned runs across 15 appearances in 2024 before underdoing arthroscopic surgery in July. Romano was ramping up his throwing program at the end of the regular season and could be ready for the start of spring training. After signing a one-year, $8.5 million pact with Philadelphia, Romano will need prove he can still pitch at an elite level.
