Tirso Ornelas

Ornelas has been one of the more highly regarded prospects in the San Diego organization as he has made a slow climb up the organizational ladder since debuting as a 17-year old in rookie ball in 2017. It is worth remembering the Triple-A club plays in an extremely cozy environment in El Paso when you look at the 23 homers Ornelas hit there in 2024 before getting too excited about what he could potentially do at the big league level. The minor league StatCast data calls more into question what he has done rather than validate those numbers, but Ornelas could have an immediate chance to say otherwise in 2026. The current depth chart of the organization at least has him in the rotation at DH, but he also has another minor league option so his 2026 address could be quickly influenced by the next free agent acquisition by A.J. Preller. For now, Ornelas is a deep NL-Only league option on draft day. Read Past Outlooks
